Fatal Pedestrian Accident in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) – A pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing Cottage Road in South Portland on Sunday afternoon.

Paula Mcauliffe, a 71-year-old resident of South Portland, was rushed to Maine Medical Center with critical injuries, but she passed away soon after. The driver involved in the accident cooperated with the police, and no criminal activity has been reported so far.

The incident is still under investigation. South Portland Police Chief Dan Ahern expressed his condolences in a statement, emphasizing the tragedy of such an event on Christmas Eve.
