BETHEL, Maine (WGAN)  The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says a man is facing charges after abducting his daughters.

Police say on Sunday, they responded to Bethel for the reported abduction of an 8- and 9-year-old girl.

Police say the girls’ father, 40-year-old Edward “Jun” Gillespie, was identified as the likely suspect.  Police say he did not have custodial rights to have the children when he picked them up.  Police also believed he intended to leave the state.

Police say Gillespie’s car was found just before the New Hampshire border.  Both girls were in the car.

Police say the Gillespie was arrested and charged with criminal restraint by a parent.  A female in the car was also charged.

The two girls were returned to their home.
