Some Maine fire departments will benefit from more than $150,000 in grant funding.

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree’s office announced Friday that the money is part of the second round of funding through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Departments in South Portland, Casco and Boothbay Harbor will receive money for equipment and gear like portable radios, training props, and fit testing for breathing apparatus.

In the first round of funding, more than $500,000 was secured for departments in Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach, Casco, and West Gardiner.

“Every day, Maine firefighters put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant is a profoundly important program that protects these brave heroes. Whether for equipment, maintenance, or training, this federal funding is vital to ensuring our firefighters are prepared and protected,” said Pingree.
