A fire at the town garage in Peru destroyed nearly all of the town’s tools.
According to CBS 13 news, the fire broke out just after midnight Friday morning. Dispatchers said the garage on Peru Center Road burned to the ground, destroying the equipment inside, including snow plows. All that remains is a backhoe.
There were no injuries.
Officials say the damage ranges between $1.3 to $1.5 million.
The road commissioner says they may be able to borrow equipment from other towns for the time being. They also said it’s not clear if they’ll be able to determine the fire’s cause.
