Fire Heavily Damages Wells Home During Maine Coast Marathon

Wells Fire Department

A house in Wells has heavy damage from a weekend fire that occurred while members of the fire department were helping with support at the Maine Coast Marathon.

Wells firefighters say they called in help from departments in Sanford, North Berwick and Kennebunk to help put out the fire at a home in Meadowledge Resort on Post Road.

They say two people and a dog escaped the fire, although the home received extensive damage.

Firefighters say the fire appears to have started at an oven which had just been turned on to pre-heat, and the cause is accidental.

The Wells Fire Department says the incident occurred during day 2 of the Maine Coast Marathon, and in the height of the 5k and Full Marathon.

The department said the event requires additional Fire and EMS members from their crews. They say collaborative efforts of the Wells Public Safety Team in the planning of resources and EMS operations for the marathon was instrumental in the safe and seamless operation of a serious emergency simultaneously occurring during the race.
