SOUTH PARIS, Maine (WGAN) New details have emerged after a fire in South Paris that left a 5-year-old dead.

The fire broke out at the home on Nichols Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire investigators are still investigating the cause of the fire, but family members say Alec James Packard, who went by AJ, was the victim.

The boy’s mother was able to get her 3-year-old and 9-month-old daughters out of the house, but could not save the 5-year-old. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The community has started fundraisers to help the family.
