Four people were displaced after a fire burned an apartment complex in Ellsworth Wednesday morning.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire on Meadow View Lane, which left one adult male with life-threatening burns who was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The fire was quickly knocked down by fire crews.

Investigators determined that the fire was caused by the careless disposal of smoking material.
