The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office says a fire on Long Island in Casco Bay claimed the life of one person.

The Long Island Fire Department responded to the fire at a home on Atlantic Lane around 2:30 p.m. Monday. There were two family members inside the home at the time of the fire. One of them, 69-year-old Thomas Johnson, did not make it out.

Investigators responded to the scene Monday night but were not able to conduct a complete search because of the amount of debris and lack of light.

Investigators returned Tuesday morning and located the remains, which were being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
