PORTLAND, Maine (AP) There are scores of firetrucks in Portland, but they’re not battling a fire.

Nearly 100 trucks from across the state are participating in a parade Saturday to celebrate the 250th year of service in Portland. The trucks old and new will feature more than 180 years of firefighting equipment from an 1863 hand pumper to modern trucks.

The Grand Marshal is Arthur Best, a Portland firefighter who retired in 1974.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Maine State Federation of Firefighters 55th Annual Convention, which is being held in Portland.
