A fisherman was found dead after his boat capsized near an island in Downeast Maine.

The U.S. Coast Guard says a pair of fishermen departed on a skiff from Beals Island off the coast of Jonesport on Monday.

They were traveling to Crumple Island but didn’t return, with a Coast Guard crew later locating one fisherman who was unresponsive and another who said a rogue wave capsized their boat near the island.

The unresponsive man was later pronounced dead.

Local authorities are investigating.
