Five Family Members Arrested for Selling Fentanyl in Maine

Warren, Maine (WGAN)  Five people have been arrested in Maine’s Mid Coast for selling fentanyl.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says for the last two months, they’ve been investigating the sale of the illicit drug in Knox County.  Agents say they learned members of a family were traveling to New Bedford, Massachusetts several times a week to purchase the drug, which would be resold in Knox and Lincoln counties.

Last Friday, drug agents searched the family’s two homes in Friendship and Warren.

The home in Friendship was on Harbor Road and the one in Warren was on Depot Road.  After the searches, 20 grams of fentanyl, a handgun and $1,800 in suspected drug proceeds were seized, along with other evidence of drug trafficking.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says five members of the same family have been arrested for importing and selling fentanyl in the Mid Coast.

Arrested were:

Steven Libby (49) of Warren for Aggravated Trafficking Fentanyl (Class A). Bail set at $2,500 cash.

Michelle Libby (47) of Warren, Aggravated Trafficking Fentanyl (Class A). Bail set at $1,500 cash.

Amanda Thurston (29) of Friendship, Trafficking Fentanyl . Bail set at $1,500 unsecured.

Joseph (Joey) Thurston (30) of Friendship, Conspiracy to Traffic Fentanyl (Class C). Bail set at $1,500 unsecured.

Ryan Carballo (34) transient, Trafficking Fentanyl (Class B) and Violating Conditions of Release.

The five were arrested without incident and transported to the Knox County Jail. The Libby’s are the parents of Amanda Thurston, and Ryan Carballo is the Libby’s son in law.

Several more arrests are expected in the upcoming weeks and additional charges will likely be brought against the five arrested, according to drug agents.
