A plan released by the Maine Principal’s Association calls for the delay of tackle football and indoor volleyball at Maine schools until late winter or early spring.

The final decision, released Thursday afternoon, says the MPA cannot sponsor tackle football or indoor volleyball for the fall season.

That makes an exception for 7 on 7 flag football or outdoor volleyball, which can begin in the fall. Otherwise, those sports may be pushed back to winter or spring.

Schools in counties that have a yellow or red designation under the state’s COVID-19 risk advisory system will not play games or hold practices for any sports until they’re declared green. Right now, York County is the only county in the state that is not green, as it is still considered yellow.

Other sports, including soccer, are still on for the fall, with health and safety guidelines in place and some minor modifications.

Schools can still make a final decision based on these recommendations.
