STANDISH, Maine (WGAN) Police have charged a Portland man after they say he led police on a chase with a stolen U-Haul pickup truck.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy saw a white U-Haul pickup speeding on Route 35 in Standish. The deputy tried to pull over the truck, but it sped up. The deputy stopped chasing the car after awhile.
Police say another deputy was in Windham when they saw the U-Haul drive through a red light at the corner of Routes 35 and 302. Both deputies then found the truck after it left the road near the area of Tandberg Trail and Knox Street.
Police say the truck received minor damage and the driver, identified as 41-year-old William Wyman, suffered minor injuries.
Police charged him with theft of a motor vehicle, criminal speed, driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer, operating after suspension, a probation hold and other traffic violations.
Police say this is the second time in the last four months Wyman has been arrested on similar charges. They say on Halloween night, he tried to elude deputies in another stolen U-Haul that ended with a crash in Standish.
