One person is dead after a rally car crashed into a tree during the annual Forest Rally Race Friday.

CBS 13 reports that Oxford County deputies, state police and the Andover fire department responded to South Arm Road in Township C where the crash occurred.

Officials say the vehicle failed to make a left turn, causing the driver to lose control and hit a tree on the passenger side. The passenger, 48-year-old Erin Kelly of Marshall, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New England Forest Rally announced the cancellation of the rest of the event on Facebook and offered their condolences to Kelly’s family and friends.

The crash is under investigation.
