Former Cumberland County Deputy accused of stealing

A former Cumberland County Deputy has been indicted on theft and burglary charges.

According to CBS 13 news, court documents claim Brian Smith took “unauthorized control” over the property of three victims from Gray, with a value totaling more than $10,000.

Smith was indicted earlier this month.

The alleged thefts happened between January and June of 2024. Documents also claim that Smith entered the home of one of the victims “with the intent to commit the crime of theft.”

Smith resigned from the sheriff’s office in August amid a review of his conduct.

He’ll appear in court on Jan. 16, 2025.
