Former Governor and current candidate Paul LePage visited the Messer Truck facility in Westbrook early Wednesday morning.  Current New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, in town for the National Governor’s Association semi-annual meeting, joined LePage.

In their brief press conference, LePage and Sununu talked inflation, with LePage bashing Governor Janet Mills for a myriad of concerns, including rising costs to heat homes.  Additionally, LePage was concerned about Maine’s fossil fuel divestment as well as the infrastructure regarding electric vehicles.  “We were the first state to divest from fossil fuels…ridiculous policy,” LePage said.  He also criticized the University of Maine Board of Trustees for their extension of Chancellor Dannel Malloy’s contract, saying that he thinks the next Chancellor should be from here in Maine.

LePage also seemed perplexed by the idea of statewide electric car use, saying “this is the one thing that really bothers me…we’re only investing in solar.  How are you going to charge them [electric cars].  Because you’re going to use your car during the day, when the sun is out, but at night, there’s no sun.  How are you going to chare them?  There’s no infrastructure in place.”

When asked about a recent trip to Florida to meet with Governor Ron DeSantis, LePage said bluntly, “I went to raise money.”  Additionally, when pushed on whether or not he would support a potential Trump or DeSantis presidential run, he was non-committal, saying  “I’m not supporting anybody at this point.”  He also remarked “when I’m Governor, I’ll tell you what I really think.”

Currently, Governor Janet Mills leads Former Governor LePage in all available polls.  LePage is attempting to become the first governor in the modern era to serve non-consecutive terms.
