WGAN – Former Governor Paul LePage has responded to the incident where he was captured on video  threatening to “deck” a Maine Democratic Party staff member even adding “you’re going down”.   The interaction happened on Aug. 14 at the Madawaska Acadian Festival.

On WGAN’s Inside Maine on Saturday August 20th the former governor told host Shawn Moody twice that he is refusing to apologize for the incident stating:

“This tracker that was out of sight came up behind me, reached over my right shoulder and tried to stick a phone in my in my face. And as I saw something coming, I didn’t know what it was, I just brought my arm up. And then I realized it was him. And It startled me. And it intimidated me a bit. And I told him to back off, or I would knock him down. You know, I said stay six feet away or I’m gonna deck you and frankly, I’m not going to apologize for and this is why:  When a governor is in office, he has security. This would never could never happen to Janet Mills, because she has security. In my eight years of Governor. Four people threatened my life and were tried and convicted and went to jail for threatening my life. A state senator, the father of a state senator posted on social media that somebody should take out LePage so he doesn’t win the governorship. My car has been keyed, my tires have been punctured. And this is all since I’ve run this time, because I’m running as a former governor without security. So I’m not going to apologize for trying to stay alive.”
