Former UMaine football player killed in shooting in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WGAN) A former UMaine football player is dead after a shooting in Philadelphia.

Zaire Williams played for the Black Bears as a running back during the 2016 season. Police say he was shot in the head around 4 a.m. Monday. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Williams transferred to UMaine in 2016 after playing two seasons at Temple University. He left school prior to the 2017 season after failing to meet academic requirements.

There’s no word on a suspect or a motive in the killing.
