Freeport man taken into custody after allegedly driving wrong way on I-95

A Maine state trooper intercepted a wrong-way driver on I-95 in Aroostook County by striking the vehicle.

Maine State Police say the trooper responded to calls reporting a wrong-way driver at mile marker 226 Monday night around midnight.

The trooper struck the passenger side of the vehicle as it passed him at mile 286 in Oakfield.

The driver, 75-year-old James Burch of Freeport, was then taken into custody. He’s being held at Aroostook County Jail on charges of criminal OUI, aggravated driving to endanger, and passing a roadblock.

Neither the trooper nor Burch were injured.
