Slick road conditions due to freezing rain led to multiple crashes on the Maine Turnpike Friday morning.

The Maine Turnpike Authority just before 5:30 a.m. reported that a tractor trailer had jackknifed, blocking both southbound lanes south of Exit 63 in Gray.

The MTA said just before 9 a.m. that there were significant delays in the area of mile 42 northbound due to multiple crashes, including another one involving a tractor trailer truck.

At about 9:15 a.m. officials reported that a crash at mile 119 northbound on I-95 in Sidney was causing major delays.

At the request of Maine State Police, officials dropped the speed limit to 45 mph on the turnpike from the New Hampshire line to the end of the turnpike in Augusta

The National Weather Service in Gray issued a Winter Weather Advisory that was scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. Friday.

Morning sleet and freezing rain was expected to change to rain showers in the afternoon.
