The Gorham School Department says Narragansett Elementary School will remain closed on Wednesday as an investigation into a gas leak continues.
Narragansett Elementary was evacuated on Monday when a gas odor was detected in the building, and the school remained closed on Tuesday while an investigation continued.
The school department says the school will be closed Wednesday so Maine Natural Gas and J & J Heating can complete their work and ensure the school is safe for students and staff members.
It’s the second time in roughly a month that Narragansett Elementary has been shut down after a gas smell led to an evacuation on November 6th.
The school department says it’ll inform families by 1 p.m. Wednesday if Narragansett Elementary moves to remote learning for Thursday or Friday.
Narragansett Elementary is the only Gorham school affected by the closure, as classes will be held Wednesday at all other schools, the department said.
