GRAY, Maine – The National Weather Service says a passing storm system could bring bitter, sub-zero cold and snow squalls to northern New England.

Light to moderate snowfall was coming down Tuesday in New Hampshire and southern and western Maine.

Forecasters predict that Thanksgiving Day will mean bitter, early season cold and snow squalls Wednesday night.

Southern Vermont could also see snow showers and squalls starting Wednesday as an arctic front crosses through the region. Wind chills could bring temperatures down to 5 to 15 degrees below zero in Vermont.

Record cold air and strong gusty northwest wins are also expected in northern and western Maine on Wednesday.
