Gov. Mills announces millions in federal money to prop up Maine’s logging industry

MILFORD, Maine (WGAN) Governor Janet Mills this week toured the state to tout the Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan.

On Friday, she visited Randall Madden Trucking in Milford to announce that the state’s forest products industry will receive $20 million in federal funding. She says those grants will go to Maine loggers, foresters, lumber yards, and other members of the state’s forest products sector.

It’s intended to help recover losses during the pandemic, as well as upgrade infrastructure.

“Sustaining these businesses and supporting new and innovative products will open new markets, diversify this important industry, create jobs, and strengthen rural economy,” Mills said.

Earlier this week, the governor also unveiled similar grant programs for the state’s agriculture and seafood industries.

The governor’s jobs plan uses some of the $4.5 billion in federal money made available to the state through the American Rescue Plan Act.
