Governor Janet Mills will deliver her final State of the State address on January 27th.

Mills says she will thank the people of Maine for allowing her to serve as governor and will outline progress made addressing challenges Mainers face, such as high costs.

“I am proud of the progress we have made together, but, as we all know, there are still many challenges ahead,” Governor Mills said in a statement released Monday. “Maine people are struggling to get by, and by working together, we can take action to help them and make life more affordable for folks across our state.”

The state legislature will face a number of challenges in the upcoming session, including Maine’s ongoing housing crisis and federal cuts to food and health care services.

Governor Mills is term-limited and is seeking to oppose Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins in next year’s election.

In the short term, she’ll have to deal with scores of bills passed by lawmakers that she declined to sign, and now must veto them or allow them to become law.

Mills will also be addressing how to use new money after the state Revenue Forecasting Committee updated its estimate to include an additional $250 million over the next two years.
