Governor Janet Mills extended Maine’s State of Civil Emergency for another 30 days.
The extension, put in place as the state continues monitoring coronavirus outbreaks amid school reopenings, means the state of emergency will expire October 1st unless it’s extended again.
Nearly every state in the country has some form of emergency declaration currently in place.
The governor’s administration says the declaration allows the state to draw down additional federal resources and deploy tools to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the sixth extension of the State of Civil Emergency since the virus reached Maine in March. State law only allows an extension of 30 days at a time.
