AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A pair of companies in Biddeford and Wiscasset have each received $250,000 grants through the Maine Clean Energy Innovation Challenge.

Farmhand Automation, in Biddeford, is developing batter-powered farming robots to help farmers transition away from gas- and diesel-powered equipment.

Peregrine Turbine Technologies, in Wiscasset, is developing turbine engine technology to store renewable power from solar and wind, making it available 24-7.

“Innovative companies across Maine are leading the transition to a clean energy future,” said Democratic Gov. Janet Mills.

The Maine Clean Energy Innovation Challenge, announced by the governor on Earth Day, aims to support companies with products or technologies that reduce carbon emissions, increase renewable energy and grow Maine’s clean energy economy.

It is a joint initiative of the Maine Technology Institute and the Governor’s Energy Office.
