A Republican group supporting Senator Susan Collins has accidentally run ads in the wrong Portland.

Republican Super PAC Defending Main Street spent $25,000 on ads attacking Collins’ Democratic opponent Troy Jackson in Portland, Oregon – not here in Maine.

The ad buyer, Cross Media, reportedly took down the ads quickly, which refer to Jackson as “taxin’ Troy Jackson.”

Republican Main Street Partnership President Sarah Chamberlain told NBC News Monday she was “absolutely furious” about the mix-up.

“The buyers made a mistake on one of the placements. It’s down now and they’re running it in Portland, Maine,” said Chamberlain. “It has nothing to do with us. I would never run an ad in Portland, Oregon, for Susan Collins, for Christ’s sake.”

The Maine Senate race is being closely watched nationally as being critical in determining which party controls Congress.

It’s also one of the most expensive races, with $195 million reportedly being spent so far.

Axios reports spending on the Maine Senate race amounts to $167 per eligible voter, as calculated using date from AdImact, making it the most expensive race in the country per-capita.
