The Maine Emergency Management Agency is warning that some residents will be in the dark into the weekend following the second powerful wind storm in two weeks.

The National Weather Service said a 74 mph gust was recorded Friday morning in Castine. Fire Chief Randy Stearns said both roads leading into town were closed for a time.

All told, more than 100,000 homes and businesses were left without electricity in Maine.

The state’s largest utility, Central Maine Power, has 60 crews from Canada and 69 in-state contract crews assisting 97 CMP crews. A spokeswoman said the utility is trying to line up additional help but it’s challenge because of widespread damage.

The storm comes two weeks after a Nor’easter left more than 200,000 homes and businesses in the dark.
