Head-on crash involving two SUVs in Penobscot County leaves two people dead

Two people were killed in a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Penobscot County.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 10 a.m. on Route 180, or Rebel Hill Road, in Clifton.

Police said an SUV crossed the centerline at a high rate of speed and hit a smaller SUV head-on. The larger SUV caught fire after rolling over several times.

The drivers of both vehicles were killed.

The crash is still under investigation.
