Head-on crash on Route 1 in Saco leaves motorcyclist dead

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Route 1 in Saco Friday morning.

Saco Police say 52-year-old Michael Peterson of Biddeford was riding his motorcycle heading northbound around 7 a.m. when he tried to pass a tractor-trailer that was making a right turn.

Police say Peterson crossed the center line and struck an SUV head-on.

He was pronounced dead at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The driver of the SUV, 53-year-old Mickie Cyr of Saco, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Maine Med.

Route 1 was closed for several hours.

The crash is still under investigation.
