BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) Acadia National Park rangers had to summon a helicopter to rescue a Maine man trapped on ice on the Precipice Trail.

Officials say the 26-year-old Belfast man called for help after getting stuck on an icy vertical face on Wednesday. He wedged himself against a tree to avoid sliding and suffering major injuries.

The conditions would’ve made for a difficult rescue by rangers, so a Maine National Guard helicopter assisted. The man was airlifted to a nearby ballfield where he declined medical treatment.
