Horse Rescued From Railroad Bridge in Alton

A horse is safe after being rescued from unsafe conditions on a railroad bridge over a stream in Alton.

Alton firefighters say they were called to the scene along with the Bradford and LaGrange fire departments to find the horse stuck on the bridge, unable to move to safety Sunday afternoon.

They say the railroad company was contacted and train traffic was halted while the three departments worked to safely free the horse from the bridge.

Firefighters say they cleared the scene once the rescue was completed at about 5:30 pm Sunday

Officials credited strong mutual aid partnerships for the successful outcome.
