Hours-long standoff in Whitefield leads to one arrest by a state police K-9

WHITEFIELD (WGME) — A roughly eight-hour-long standoff in Whitefield ended around 1:30 Saturday morning.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that Edward M. Poch, 64 threatened a female with a knife and pistol around 5:40 Friday night.

The sheriff’s office said it happened at 299 Hunts Meadow Road in Whitefield.

When deputies arrived they learned two males and a female had fled the home.

Deputies and Troopers attempted to make contact with Poch.

After prolonged attempts, the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Negotiations unit were called to the scene.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. a State Police K9 was used to take Poch into custody.

 

Poch was taken to Maine General in Augusta with a non-life-threatening bite to his arm, he was treated and released.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Whitefield Fire Department responded to the scene.

Hunts Meadow Road was closed for several hours and reopened at 3:00 a.m.

Poch was initially charged with Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Domestic Violence Assault.

Deputies searched the home and found several firearms.

Abyssinian Meeting House receives $1.7 million in funding for renovations

No one else was injured.

Poch is now at Two Bridges Regional Jail and will be in court this week.
