Human remains have been found in the Aroostook County town of Blaine.
State police confirmed Tuesday that a Blaine resident discovered the remains last Thursday.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North was sent to the scene to secure the area and process the scene.
The remains were taken to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta. Investigators emphasize that the identification process can take time, and no identification has been confirmed at this point.
Police are not releasing further details while the investigation is ongoing.
