Hundreds of people payed their respects to a fallen law enforcement officer in Maine Saturday in Lewiston. Androscoggin Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Sampson died of an apparent heart attack earlier this month. The 50 year old was a father, husband, and US Army veteran.

Collegues say Sampson was a social butterfly and hard worker.

“He was our family member in law enforcement, but he was a greater part of the community and he will be missed,” said Sheriff Eric Samson of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office. “It is great that people came out to pay their respects while he was being laid to rest.”

Donations may be made in Sampson’s name to Poland Fire and Rescue.
