A Brewer woman was hit by birdshot when a member of her hunting party fired their gun in Aroostook County.

The Maine Warden Service says the 31-year-old woman was out with her bird hunting group in Hamlin on Saturday when the incident happened.

She was riding in an ATV side-by-side when the driver grabbed their shotgun and bumped the gun against the vehicle’s roll cage, causing their hand to pull the trigger.

The victim was shot in the knee and underwent surgery at a Caribou hospital to clean the wound while the ATV driver, Danielle Fernald, was summonsed for shooting from a motor vehicle.
