AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A Maine district attorney is dismissing charges against a former state lawmaker for failing to disclose a felony conviction when he obtained a hunting license.

Former Rep. Jeffrey Pierce, of Dresden, faced three counts of fraudulently obtaining a hunting license, which is a misdemeanor. Pierce, a Republican, pleaded not guilty in March.

The Portland Press Herald reports Lincoln County District Attorney Natasha Irving says she doesn’t believe she has enough evidence to guarantee a conviction of Pierce. She says he’ll donate $750 to a Maine conservation group as part of an agreement.

Pierce declined to confirm the agreement in an interview with the Press Herald. He has said he plans to run for the Maine Legislature again. He was a state representative from 2015 to 2018.
