The identity of a man who helped rescue a father and his 6-year-old daughter from the roof of a burning home in Hallowell remains a mystery.

The fire on Franklin St. broke out just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The man grabbed a ladder, and with the help of a local police officer, the two were able to get the father and daughter to safety.

Anyone who knows the identity of the man who rushed in to help is urged contact the Hallowell Police Department through its Facebook Page.

There is still no word on what caused the fire, but investigators believe it started on a front porch.
