Investigators retrieve body after basement fire in Portland

Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found after a fire in Portland on Sunday.

The fire was reported around 3:30 Sunday afternoon at 34 Bayview Drive.

Police arrived to find a body tentatively identified as 78-year-old Lester York.

His body was brought to the medical examiner’s office to determine a cause of death.

Investigators said the fire started in the basement of the home. It burned the contents of the building but didn’t damage the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
