A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Maine hospital network against the pharmaceutical industry.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the suit was dismissed Monday by a Cumberland County judge. Northern Light Health filed the suit over the role that drug companies have played in perpetuating the opioid crisis.

Business and Consumer Court Judge Michael Duddy said that although the crisis may impact patients and members of the public, Northern Light did not make a strong enough case that it was directly harmed by the actions of drug companies.

A Northern Light spokesperson said they respect the decision but disagree, and are evaluating next steps.
