PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Portland police say three schools in the city were placed in lockdown on Friday after a student made threats and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.

Staff at Longfellow Elementary School were told by a student that another student was threatening to use the gun around noon on Friday. Lincoln Middle, Longfellow Elementary and Deering High schools were placed in lockdown.

The 13-year-old Lincoln Middle School student was found around 1:00 P.M. at the Evergreen Cemetery. Police found a realistic-looking pellet gun nearby and believe that was the weapon the student had displayed earlier.

The juvenile is charged with criminal threatening and terrorizing and was released to the custody of their parents.
