Kennebec County Woman Dies in New Year’s Day House Fire

Chelsea – (WGME) On Saturday, January 1, 2022, at approximately 6:47 a.m., the Chelsea Fire Department was called to a house fire at 87 Cheney Road in Chelsea.

The home owner, 95-year-old Gladys McGuire was located inside of the residence, deceased. Ms. McGuire lived alone at the residence. Her remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be conducted Sunday. The Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate. Investigators were on scene for most of the day.

The Chelsea, Togus VA, Gardiner, West Gardiner, Vassalboro, Pottstown and Farmingdale Fire Departments responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
