Kennebunk residents to vote on recall effort in RSU 21

KENNEBUNK, Maine (WGAN) A member of the RSU 21 board of directors is facing a recall vote.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Kennebunk residents on Tuesday will vote on whether to recall Tim Stentiford.

The recall effort began last fall, when a group of residents blamed Stentiford and board chair Art LeBlanc for the loss of teachers, spending increases, and the lack of a school board curriculum committee. Not enough signatures were collected to force a recall vote for LeBlanc.

Some school board members defended LeBlanc and Stentiford, bringing attention to the challenges posed by the pandemic and that a recall “based on the claim of a lack of support for teachers is unfounded.” Critics of the recall effort also claim it’s being driven by personal reasons.

Stentiford’s three-year term ends in June.
