BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) Sen. Angus King got his motor running, and headed out on the highway.

The independent from Maine hit the road on his Harley for three days of listening sessions that wrapped up Sunday at home in Brunswick.

He told WABI-TV that it was great to hit the road and not have to answer the phone. He said “it’s pure fun riding in Maine in the summer.”

King has been riding a motorcycle since the days when he was governor. Back then he sometimes rode with then-Chief Justice Daniel Wathen.

King is up for re-election. Republican Eric Brakey and Democrat Zak Ringelstein hope to unseat the popular independent in November.
