The trial of a Louisiana man accused in the killing of a toddler in Thomaston ended with a mistrial on Wednesday due to a hung jury.
Aziayh Scott pleaded not guilty to manslaughter for the death of 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson.
The child was found unresponsive at a Thomaston Walmart in May of 2024.
Scott was living with Wilson’s mother in Owls Head at the time.
Scott’s defense said there’s no evidence that the child’s injuries were inflicted by their client, while the prosecution said the wounds could have only come about from abuse.
His defense also claimed that Wilson’s death could have been caused by too much force used when CPR was administered to try to resuscitate him.
A prosecutor told the Midcoast Villager on Wednesday they plan to retry Scott.
Scott remains free on $50,000 bail and has been working at a restaurant.
