ACTON, Maine (WGAN) An Acton landlord has been arrested after police say he repeatedly harassed some of his tenants.
The York County Sheriff’s Office says an Acton couple renting a house called them on Jan. 2 over a landlord/tenant dispute. According to the renters, the landlord’s boyfriend, Steven Spooner Sr., told them their rent would be increased. When they argued, renters told police Spooner told them them would be evicted, by force if necessary.
Later that day after the first confrontation, police say Spooner plowed down a fence the couple had put up for their pet dog. The renters called the sheriff’s office because of the damaged property and Spooner’s apparent emotional escalation.
Later that night, sheriff’s deputies charged Spooner with criminal mischief. Police say Spooner admitted to damaging the fence and showed no remorse. He was warned to stop harassing the couple.
Later that same night, the victims reported “somebody” was blaring their horn. The following morning, Jan. 3, the victims found trash on their front steps around 7 a.m. and their internet connection wires had been severed. The victims then went to Springvale District Court and got a protection of harassment order on Spooner.
The morning of Jan. 4, the day after Spooner was served the protection of harassment order, the victims were woken up around 7 a.m. the horn on Spooner’s truck, which was parked directly outside their bedroom. The horn blared periodically until 10:30 a.m., each time causing the victims, one of whom has a medical condition, to be disturbed, according to police.
Sheriff’s deputies investigated and Spooner told them he “accidentally” hit the horn a single time. The 52-year-old was arrested for violated a protection from harassment order and taken to York County Jail. He posted $100 bail.
Spooner is scheduled to be in Springvale District Court on March 27, 2018.
