AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Lawyers have finished closing arguments in the case of a Maine man charged with trying to kill a sheriff’s deputy.

The judge will now make the final verdict after Scott Bubar pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated attempted murder and reckless conduct in the 2017 shootout.

Prosecutors say Bubar barricaded himself inside his mobile home in Belgrade and shot at multiple police officers who responded to a call about a domestic disturbance.

Scott Bubar’s 65-year-old father, Roger Bubar, was killed.

Defense attorneys say Roger Bubar was the one who fired at officers. Scott Bubar’s lawyer says there is a lack of evidence connecting his client to the guns.

Judge Michaela Murphy says she will reach a verdict in the next few days.
