A new law regarding dogs and their owners has been proposed in South Portland.

The law would require that dogs be on a leash at all times, and it would go through September 30th.

The proposal came after two dogs killed a nearby cat at Hinckley Park. Currently, as long as owners have one hand on their dog, the pet is not required to be on a leash.

There have been mixed reactions to the proposal, but people had the opportunity to discuss it during a public hearing at the town hall Tuesday night.
