Lewiston  Police are identifying the 19-year-old gunshot victim in a Mosque shooting while seeking public help to solve the crime.

Officers said Tuesday Liban Hassan of Lewiston was hit with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during a Ramadan service at the Masjidu Salaam Mosque on Bartlett Street at about 9:45 pm Friday.

Police say one person at the scene confirmed that a shooting had taken place in the parking lot of the Mosque and officers later located over a dozen shell casings with assorted caliber weapons, indicating there were several shooters.

They say there has not been much cooperation in their investigation from Hasan or the numerous Mosque members who were attending prayer at the time of the shooting.

Police say they recovered Hassan’s vehicle, which was found abandoned with extensive damage from bullet holes. The vehicle was impounded and was searched after a search warrant was granted.

Hassan has since been released from the hospital.

Anyone with information about the shooting incident at the mosque last Friday night is asked to contact the Lewiston Police Department’s Anonymous Tip Line at 207-513-3194.
