Mayor-elect Kate Snyder joined the WGAN Morning News Wednesday, one day after she won Portland’s mayoral election.
She collected 39 percent of the votes in the first round. Spencer Thibodeau was at 28 percent and incumbent Ethan Strimling was at 25.
After Strimling and Travis Curran were eliminated during the runoff, Snyder finished with 62 percent of the votes, while Thibodeau had 38 percent.
Some question the importance of the position and its effectiveness, Snyder said on WGAN that she’s going to adhere to the role she was elected to fill.
“The way I look upon it, it’s a full-time, four-year popularly elected position that gets one vote just like all the other councilors, and so, working with the council, building coalitions in the community so that the council’s work is informed and the best that it can be is really important.”
